Key biodiversity areas: critical contributions to private sector decision-making
25 March 2025 | 11:00 - 12:30 |
Hosted by: IBAT & Birdlife International
Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are sites that contribute significantly to the global persistence of biodiversity in terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. The integration of KBA data from IBAT into decision-making within the private sector can help inform biodiversity management plans, and ultimately help position the private sector to conserve the most important areas for the global persistence of biodiversity.
There will be two parts to this session.
The first half will aim to provide participants with a deeper technical understanding of KBAs and why they are important to businesses by exploring the KBA standard and the World Database of Key Biodiversity Areas. The second half will include a presentation on additional metrics which look at the condition and threats to KBAs which are being considered as potential new metrics for IBAT. Following the presentation, we will break into group discussions to gather feedback on these additional metrics on what other information related to KBAs would be useful to the private sector.
