Knowledge Hubs Day Two
State of Nature: Exploring business needs for measuring and accounting for their impacts on ecosystem condition
26 March 2025 | 10:00 - 12:00 |
Hosted by: The Biodiversity Footprint Intelligence Company
Measuring and accounting for the impacts of businesses on ecosystem condition is a critical component of effective action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. Integrating metrics on ecosystem condition into the application of existing reporting frameworks will be a decisive lever for ensuring robust accounting of impacts on ecosystem condition. There are however many technical challenges in understanding how ecosystem condition can and should be measured within different decision-making contexts.
The session will provide participants with an overview of the existing workstreams on this subject from the NPI, TNFD and GRI. It will demonstrate and discuss how ecosystem condition metrics can be used to both identify sensitive locations and measure impacts on biodiversity drawing from a concrete example of the data and approach used by Anglo American to Locate and Evaluate its impacts on ecosystem condition. Participants will be provided with the opportunity to share their experience and suggestions relating to the measurement of ecosystem condition, seeking to feed into the various workstreams and reflections currently underway.
